Hello my Darlings and welcome to Mum Dee Does. I am Dee, a mum who does (it all), and today I want to introduce my new blog.

I’ve been thinking about setting up my own blog for a few weeks now. I have a ton of ideas floating around in my head, thoughts, activities and stories that I am keen to share with you but which have become ever so slightly off-topic at Happy Homestead.
Don’t get me wrong, I love what James has done with that channel - it’s gained such good momentum and has a great community surrounding it, but seeing as the majority of its content is circling the homebrew topics, I felt for a while that I needed a blog space that is entirely my own. A place for my talents (however obscure and uninspiring they may be). A place for my thoughts, my games, my lists, my worries, my tales, my inspirations and defeats. A place where I can simply be me.
So here it is! My name is Dee and I am a mum who does… a little bit of this and a little bit of that at the moment - but soon, I will be doing pretty much everything! You see, James has been accepted to join the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and will be going away for training and then on tour, leaving little Ronnie and me here on our little island to fend for ourselves for 7 whole months!
7 months I tell you! That is not such a brief holiday, that’s a whole different, brand new life! It is daunting, it is scary and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I’ve never really been on my own before, yet alone whilst being entirely responsible for a small, inquisitive and extremely headstrong human, and two dogs (who can be just as wound up at times), and balancing a few other personal and professional projects… All whilst living on an extremely remote little Scottish island.
You see, if we lived in Cardiff, London or Aberdeen (read: a large city) my challenges would be entirely different. But living here on Eday, a place with only 120 people, a single daily boat, frequent power cuts and freak weather occurrences presents its own unique demands for this soon-to-be lone parent. Soon-to-be military wife.
I will keep this blog as a personal journal, a record of my triumphs and falls, my achievements and disappointments and I invite you to join me on a journey of uncertainty, emotional upheaval, parenting trials and, ultimately, significant personal growth. And the growth of my little boy Ronnie too!
You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, by RSS news feed or by subscribing to my monthly email bulletin. I am also going to launch a YouTube channel soon, so why don’t you subscribe to it now and be the first to see my new videos too!
It’s been a pleasure! My name is Dee, and I am a mum who does. Ta ta for now.
